Gold River Buzz is part of a new phenomena of blogging known as a HyperLocal blog. Really, it’s just a fancy way of saying ‘a local blog about local news/events/people, written by a local resident’.
I’ve been blogging for a few years now, and was inspired by the recent forest fire at Antler Lake and the way the community responded to the Facebook site for up to date information.
Gold River BC, Canada has nothing in the way of a web based community presence, so it’s my hope that this site will be informative and fun – for both citizens of Gold River, and also global viewers who are interested in our little Village.
Now about me…. I’m guessing that by now that most of you Gold River residents know who I am? If you don’t, well here are some more hints.
We moved to Gold River in 2003 for my husband’s job. Although he worked in Kyuquot, we resided here and he flew to work every week with Air Nootka. After just one year, we were transferred to another community on the Island, but continued to return every Summer to camp at Muchalaht Lake. We talked about Gold River for a few years after that, and always wished that we would have the opportunity to return one day – we got our wish in 2007!
Due to my husband’s career, we tend to move around quite a bit. In fact, this is our sixth community in 14 years. I usually get antsy around year two and start to get the moving bug, but not this time. Gold River has truly become home to me, and I plan to dig my heels in for as long as I can!
