Body of Missing Man Found

At approximately 4:00pm today the body of missing 21 year old Justin Bergquist was recovered by Nootka Sound RCMP from the Heber River just down from where he was last seen.

Justin Bergquist was last seen on Friday May 13th at 11:45pm walking alone on the upper Heber bridge.  A passerby on a motorcycle confirmed that Justin was alone on the bridge just prior to his disappearance.

Justin’s body has been taken to the Gold River Medical Clinic, and the investigation has been turned over to the BC Coroner’s Office.

Nootka Sound RCMP would like to thank the community, Campbell River Search & Rescue and the countless volunteers who assisted in the search for Justin.

I know I speak for the entire community when I say that our thoughts and prayers go out to Justin’s family and friends.

Sending sincerest condolences to the Berquist family & friends of Justin, as well as the community as a whole. A beautiful person who’s smile shined brilliantly, is no longer. Our community is a close one, & to have one of our own no longer with us… it leaves an impact, a hole in our hearts. ((HUGS)). From me & my family, I send my thoughts & prayers.

in the warm winds he flies,
in the blue sky he shines,
and in the languid depths he resides.

    No man can take away,
no laughter can shade his thoughts,
no hurt can steal his strength.

    In unknown arms he shelters,
    in unseen lands he walks
and under a sightless sky he stands.

The path he takes can not be followed, but his journey will never be lonely as the strength of his family and friends will guide him always.

Very sorry for your loss. A beautiful boy. RIP Justin.

  • I don’t know the Bergquist family but my heart goes out to them. I grew up in GR and know how tight knit of a community it is; how news like this can not only hurt but also strengthen. Justin had a lovely smile from the looks of the pic attached to this story- may that shine forever.
