Eagle's Wing Cafe ExteriorThis Business Spotlight highlights a fabulous little cafe and some very lovely owners. I sat down with Henry the other day and had a delicious cup of coffee and a great chat. Thanks so much Henry!

How long have you lived in Gold River? What brought you here?

My family and I came to Gold River 14 years ago. We wanted to raise our son in a small town. My wife Susanne knew Chris and Cindy Matthews who had a Larch Place townhouse available to rent, and everything fell into place!

Please tell us a bit about your family.

My wife Susanne and I have been married for 19 years. We have one son, Isaiah, who will be starting Grade 12 at GRSS this coming September.

You are the owner of the Eagles Wings Cafe. When did you start this venture? Who helps you run the business?

We officially opened the Cafe on July 27, 2015.

It’s a family run business and my Mother-in-Law Louise Karlsson helps as well.  It’s been a dream of mine for 25 years to run a family owned cafe. It also serves as fantastic work experience for Isaiah. I would also be open to provide work experience for a GRSS student who wishes to enter the food service industry and learn about the business.

What kind of food and drinks do you serve?

We serve fresh cinnamon buns and fresh homemade soup everyday. We also have baked goods like bread and buns available.

As well, we do special orders for baked goods such as bread, buns, cakes and pies. We also try to offer a fresh muffin everyday.  Everything we serve is homemade (with love!) from scratch.

We also have 10 flavours of hard ice cream served with homemade waffle cones.

We serve a variety of coffees and teas: the Buzz Saw was developed for Gold River Days, and is a flavoured iced coffee. We also serve Canadasia (Americano), Espresso, Latte, Cappuccino and Frappuccino.  (All coffees can be iced) In addition to coffee, we also have 22 varieties of tea and are now offering Matcha tea.

Our coffee is an Ethiopian free trade organic coffee. Refills are free!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

We look forward to serving the community of Gold River for many years to come.
