I would like to say Thank You to our friends, family and customers for all the kind words, hugs and offers of help. We are truly blessed to live in Gold River.
We will be moving to a temporary location in the vacant spot next to the Gold River Deli. The power has not been restored yet and all of my stock has been taken out for cleaning, so when I have enough product back and the power is on we will reopen.
I have some copies of Twilight/Breaking Dawn available for sale. I am selling them at my cost because they have minor damage to the outside package. I have two Blu-Ray & five DVD copies. Please contact me if you wish to purchase.
Regarding the Skate Shop, we are open for business at our house. If you need your skates sharpened, please drop them off at 503 Burman Court or phone me at 250-293-2923.
All of Gold River shared in the shock and sadness yesterday when we woke up to learn that a fire had destroyed the China House Restaurant and damaged many of the other businesses in the Nimpkish Centre.
The Gold River Fire Department has indicated that the fire started in the kitchen area of the China House, and that it is not suspicious in nature. The Insurance Centre, the Veterinarian Office and Village Video have also suffered major fire, smoke and water damage. The Gold River Deli (at the south end of the building) was left relatively undamaged.
Thankfully, a resident in the Gold Crest Apartments saw the fire around 4:00am and called the Fire Department. Our volunteer Fire Department worked tirelessly throughout the early morning and the rest of the day to save the building and keep the fire from spreading to other businesses.
For now, Edie Merlo of Village Video is looking for a temporary location, and is asking residents to drop off any rentals you may have directly to her or her daughter Deanna.
Dawn Dakin, owner of the Deli, says she expects the Deli to be closed for about a week, due to electricity issues.
Our hearts go out to the Tran Family, Edie, Loretta, Dawn, Dr. Proctor and all the staff that have been affected.

Sadly, it looks like another Gold River business has held out as long as they can. The staff at Shear Heaven have announced that they will be closing their doors on February 25th.

The ATM will provide residents with the ability to deposit cash and cheques locally at times that are convenient to the individual client. This installation includes our commitment to the community for delivery of cash and coin for our business partners through armoured car service, alleviating any need for the difficult winter drive to Campbell River.

The timeline for the ATM is still in discussion with much work to be completed prior to its arrival. Well we’ve been busy at Super Valu. We are always looking for ways to help our customers make sure they are getting good value for their shopping dollar so……….. we’ve been doing some price checks around the various stores in Campbell River. We are happy to report that in many cases you are getting a better deal by shopping here in Gold River.
