Great Walk 2013 Cancelled

Unfortunately, the 36th annual GreatWalk-Ultramarathon has been cancelled for 2013.

We eagerly look forward to the 37th annual GreatWalk-Ultramarathon on June 7, 2014.

Due to very low registered participants and unforeseen personal, sensitive situations we have no choice but to postpone this great event.

The 2014 Registration Package will be available in the early fall of 2013. Please  monitor the website for all updates: www.greatwalk.com.

Thank you all for your past, current and future dedication to this great event – see you in June 2014.

Note: reimbursements will be mailed to those who have already registered.

Sincerely,

The GreatWalk-Ultramarathon Team

Christmas Craft Fair – Dec 1st!

This Saturday (Dec 1st) from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, there will be 25 tables of crafts and home based businesses for your shopping pleasure at the Community Centre.

~ Santa will be arriving by helicopter at 11:00 am. ~

The kitchen will be (wo)manned by the ladies from Northgate Church and the Revellers, selling coffee, tea and delectables.

As well, the GRSS Costa Rica trip class will have a table.  They have worked really hard to make beautiful candle holders for their craft table, and they will also be taking last minute poinsettia orders.

The GRSS 2013 Grads will also be hosting some fun carnival type activities for kids, selling cotton candy and Christmas baking!

Please come and wish your fellow Gold Riverites a Merry Christmas, while you shop local!

If you missed Santa’s Elves on their recent Food Bank Blitz Sunday night and wish to donate, you can drop your non-perishable items off at SuperValu (there is a box underneath the weekly flyer display), or at Northgate Church.

In addition, you can also contact Heather Warwick (250-283-7319) or Rob Hoffman (250-283-7241) and they can assist you.

Did I miss other drop-off locations?  Please comment and let others know.

Gold River Days a Wild Success

Mother Nature cooperated to the fullest and came through with a gorgeous weekend for Gold River Days 2012.

Gold River’s Got Talent on Friday night was a hit with participants from all age groups, and Saturday was a fun filled family day in the park.

Thanks to Suzanne Trevis for the Talent Show videos and to Lee Yateman for the parade video!

Help Needed for Great Walk

Via Sheila Bugar:

I was contacted by Dave Kornylo to help find monitors for checkpoint #4 during the Great Walk on Saturday June 2nd.

The person in charge of that checkpoint is in the hospital and it’s a checkpoint that counts and records all the people going through.  They already have two people but they desperately need at least two to four more people.  It would involve getting to the checkpoint before 3am (as the Walk starts at 4am) and staying until the last walker has gone through which could be around 10am or later.  (Volunteers can camp out there with a trailer as well if they like!)

If you are able to help, please call Dave Kornylo @283-9160.
