Another Successful Gold River Days

Via Sheila Bugar

This year’s theme was Flower Power! This entire event was sponsored by the Village of Gold River.

Friday started off with the Party in the Plaza with many booths and a Talent Show!

There were well over 130 people in attendance.  There were many performers most ranging from 4 to 12 years old.  I think the most popular song was “Let it Go” from the movie “Frozen”!  It was a fun time for kids to get up and show off some dancing skills as well as try their hand at singing on a microphone!  The Zumba ladies performed a dance to the song “Proud Mary”.  It’s so important for people to have the opportunity to perform in some way or another.  For children especially it helps to build confidence.  What a wonderful time and very entertaining!

Saturday morning started off with a Pancake Breakfast (by donation to your favourite local charity or organization) hosted by the Gold River Legion.  The parade kicked off at 11:15 am with several floats, walkers, bikes and many antique cars from the Vancouver Island Cruisers Club.

Later there was a Party in the Park from 12-3pm with a BBQ, booths and Bounce-a-rama!  The Party in the Park was well attended and the weather was amazing!  The mood was very celebratory and it was all smiling faces as people enjoyed BBQ’s, bouncing, photo booths, ice cream, cotton candy and much more!

Saturday evening the Gold River Legion held a Flower Power Dance which was well attended.  Sunday Gold River Days ended with Scavenger Hunts.  There were 3 kids teams and 5 Adult/Family teams!  They were each given a list of at least 50 items that they had two hours to gather.  These lists included many photo’s and videos that they had to take as well as items they needed to physically bring in person. Some examples were: take a video of two team members acting like monkeys, take a picture of a house in Gold River that is well decorated for Christmas, take a photo of your entire team with a RWES teacher making funny faces, bring in a 1974 penny, bring in an Expo 86 passport, etc.  It was a lot of fun for all involved and everyone went home with a free ice cream!

The winner of the FREE trip for two on the Uchuck donated by Get West Adventures was Merle Hagerty. The winner of the FREE mail run flight to Kyuquot donated by Air Nootka was Tony Reeves.

The winners of the Adult/Family Scavenger Hunt were: Shelbi & Darren Bracconier and their two children, the winner of the Youth Scavenger Hunts were: Taylor Frame, Eva Sommerfeld and Camryn Logue.

This weekend could not happen without many volunteers willing to lend a hand.  I’d like to thank my Gold River Days Committee members:  Betty Bell, Toni Bell, Kim Peters, Judy Baxter, Lisa Jones, Craig Anderson, Coleen Zimmer, Julie Schuminek, and Kirsty Begon.  They look forward to continuing this Gold River Days Annual event next year!

We had many donations this year to make this event a success!  We’d like to thank the Gold River Futures Society, The Gold River Residents Association, The Lodge at Gold River, Western Forest Products, the Gold River Legion and Grieg Seafood.  Thank you to Get West Adventures for donating the trip for two on the Uchuck and to Air Nootka for donating a mail run flight to Kyuquot!

Thank you to all the businesses, organizations, and groups who took the time to take part in some way for this event.  It is more successful when the entire community comes together!

Thank you to Jan Rose and Scott Patrick , the C.O.P.’s Doria Croteau, Jerry Garcia and Nolan Bugar, the RCMP & Auxiliaries, the Village of Gold River and Brian Baxter and thank you to every single person who helped in any way. It did not go unnoticed! I’m sorry if I missed anyone!

We hope everyone enjoyed this wonderful weekend! YAY Gold River!
