19 Wing Comox Silver Totems in Gold River this Weekend

The Greyhawks hockey tournament has been cancelled for this weekend, however the 19 Wing Comox Silver Totems team will still be visiting.

They will be in Gold River on Friday, November 11th to attend our Remembrance Day Ceremonies and also to play some great hockey.

The 19 Wing troop of 16 will be participating in the Remembrance Day Parade beginning at approximately 10:45am and will march to the Gold River Legion in full uniform.  The Legion will celebrate and remember this day with camaraderie throughout the afternoon.

The puck drops at 4:00pm sharp Friday afternoon when the 19 Wing Silver Totems take on our own Gold River Greyhawks at the Gold River Arena.

On Saturday, November 12th, the Silver Totems will be holding an informal hockey school for our Mites, Novice, Atom and PeeWee Divisions beginning at 10:30am.  All Minor Hockey players are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The second men’s game of the weekend will follow in the arena at 2:00pm.

Please come down to the Arena for a great weekend of hockey!  (And of course, a Moe burger or two!  :)  )

via Dawn Dakin:

Gold River voters are invited to meet and question their Municipal and School Board election candidates during an all-candidates’ forum.

The moderated and timed event will be held at the Community Centre on Sunday November 6th, 2011.

Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. for a meet and greet.  Forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. sharp and run to enable a reasonable number of questions before summations by the candidates.

The forum will be divided into three main sections:

  2. An audience question period – 45 minutes
  3. Short summation statement by the candidates – 1.5 minutes (32mins including transition time)

The candidates will have their name drawn to decide the order of the speeches and summations will be in reverse.  Trustee 1-4, Councillor 1-8 and mayor 1-3

Those wishing to ask a question of the candidates will be asked to write their name on a card. These cards will be placed in a draw box and names will be randomly chosen from this box during question period.

Only one question is permitted per person. You will have 20 seconds to ask your question.  Questions can be directed to all candidates or one candidate in particular.  Both questions and answers will be timed to ensure that as many people as possible can participate.  Debates will not be permitted.

Community Sign-up Night

Community sign up night is Wednesday, September 7th starting at 6:30pm in the Community Hall.

This is an opportunity for service groups and organizations to set up and let the community know what they do, and sign up new members.

If you want a table all you have to do is show up, set up and clean up.  There is no charge – it is provided as a community service.

It is NOT a venue for selling items unless you are trading/selling sports equipment (hockey/figure skates etc).
