Another online presence for Gold River – how exciting! Lee Yateman is currently designing a website for the Gold River Rod & Gun Club.
While it looks fantastic already, Lee says it is still a work in progress, and he is asking for some help from the community. He needs additional information for the pages of the website.
Can you help Lee? Do you know the executive officers names for the members page? Also needed – email addresses of officers, pictures of the clubhouse, pictures of recent events, news and upcoming events. Basically everything.
Lee’s done a fantastic job already – please go check out the site and click on each individual page. (If you scroll down to the bottom of the Archery and Sporting Clays pages and there are photos for each event.)
If you have information to share, please email Lee at goldriverrodandgunATgmailDOTcom.

At the request of my dear friend Margarita James, she wants all locals & people who read the Buzz to know that she is the person running the Yuquot Cabins out at Friendly Cove.
It was a wonderful surprise to see her & I couldn’t have been happier. She is the one who you will meet when you go visit the cove, or go camping, or stay at the cabins.

It has been spectacular out there this year, boats everywhere you look, and more whales then we have seen in a while. Just yesterday the humpback was rolling on the beach again…. such a spectacular sight!
Margarita is such a warm & loving person – the perfect person to welcome you to Friendly Cove!
They have a shelf of souvenirs for sale & Jim will be selling a burger meal which includes pop & chips (delicious).

Time let the paint fly! We are going paint-balling at Big Bend this Wednesday, July 21st! Meet at the Thrive Centre at 1:00pm.
If you have your own gear, please bring it – face masks are mandatory to play. If you don’t have gear, we will have some extra guns and masks to play with too.
The cost will be for the paint balls that you use, so bring $5-$10 depending on how much you shoot.
For those who have extra gear and/or guns, please contact Ryan or Sheila Bugar and let us know if we can use them for a few hours.
After lets jump into some water to cool off!

Last September I experienced my very first trip to Friendly Cove on board the MV Uchuck III. It was a gorgeous sunny day, the water was calm and the boat was full. A perfect day to be on the water!
It was the end of the season, so there were no special guests or guides on board, but it was a lovely trip there and back, with ample time to explore Friendly Cove, and most importantly – to fill up on blackberries!

When you go to Friendly Cove, make sure to take a peek at the fallen totem – it’s beautiful and haunting. Follow the trail of delicious blackberries past Ray Williams’ house (the only house still in Friendly Cove), look for a break in the blackberry bushes on your left and you will see the totem.

There was a viewing platform once, but I think it’s gone the way of it’s totem neighbour.
The M.V. Uchuck III has some fantastic guests on board for this season, and you won’t want to miss talking to Master Carver Sanford Williams and watching him work while in Friendly Cove – truly amazing!
Here is the schedule of special Uchuck guests for the 2010 season:
Historical Interpreter & Guide Chuck Syme:
Saturday July 3rd / Saturday July 31st / Monday August 9th
North Island Clayworks – Potters Neil & Anita Lawrence:
Saturday July 10th / Saturday August 7th
Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations Carver – Eugene Amos
Saturday June 19th / Saturday July 17th / Saturday August 21st
Visit the MV Uchuck III website for more information on day trips in Nootka Sound as well as other exciting excursions.

The Gold River Golf & Country Club is now open for business!
The kitchen will open on April 1st, and the new cook is Debby Johnston. Even if you don’t golf, the clubhouse is a beautiful spot to have a nice meal and enjoy the scenery.
I came across an old Gold River Golf Course website if anyone is interested. Some nice photos and hole by hole information.

I’ll add both the scorecard info and layout to the Maps/Extras section for future reference.

Spring!! What we’ve all been waiting for!
I’m sure you’ve all received the new Spring 2010 schedule in your mailboxes yesterday as well, but I’m posting it here as well for easy reference. (Click the photo to open in a new window)
As this doesn’t take effect until March 15th, I’ll leave the current ones up in the Maps/Extras section for now, and will replace them with these when the time comes.
Note: The far right of the schedule (Sunday) reads ‘Everyone Welcome, 12-4pm)
There will be a FREE Halloween skate at the arena on October 31, 2009 from 7:30 to 9:00pm.
Children must be in a costume and accompanied by parents. Rentals are free and there will be hot chocolate and hot dogs provided. There will also be a prize for best costume!
So kids, after you’re done trick-or-treating, keep that costume on, grab your parents and head on down to the arena for some spooky ice skating fun!
