Coming soon - Gold River Farmers Market

Gold River resident Christine O’Neil is organizing a Farmers Market for this Summer.  The market will operate on the last Saturday of June, July & August between the hours of 9am-1pm.   A centrally located spot within the community center is currently being determined and will be announced at a later date.

She is seeking out potential ‘farmers’ who are interested in providing produce, and really wishes to establish a ‘home grown, home made, home crafted’ philosophy for the market – heavy on the produce!  Christine will be gathering successful basic gardening tips and info from our local garden society ‘The Ladybugs’, as well as other successful growers to share.

Christine says that the feedback she’s received so far has been extremely positive and she is loving the encouragement!  Christine is looking for community input and feedback so please contact her at ca_oneil@cablerocket.com or look to join the Gold River Farmers Market group on facebook.

Watch for more info and updates as the time draws nearer.

Gold River Super Valu News…

Super Valu would like to let Gold River residents know that our flyers will no longer be in the weekly papers which the Post Office leaves on the counter.  We will have flyers in the front of the store for you to grab as you come in, and shoppers can also click on our ad here on the Buzz to see our current weekly specials and sales.  Like all businesses in these economic times, we need to find ways to cut costs and maximize our advertising dollars.

Through the terrible demise of one business comes opportunity for another.  We have become the lucky beneficiaries of some great second hand equipment from the Super Valu in Campbell River.  You will notice our new Deli case at the front of the store as well as the BBQ chicken machine and warmer.  There are also new bread racks, pop bottle return container and loads of other little things sprinkled throughout the store.  Please tell us what you think when you see the new stuff!  As I mentioned, the only cost to us was the great groups of people we had to bribe to help us move the various items from Campbell River to Gold River.  On that note, we would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to all our friends for giving us a helping hand when we needed you. You guys are the best!

Finally, the new Debit/Credit card system has been installed bringing us a little more up to date.  We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience as that system was installed on New Years Eve.  Unfortunately we had no choice as to the timeline of that little debacle – the good news is that it’s all done now and working well.

Thank you Gold River for your continued support!

Campbell River Auctions online

Maybe you know….. maybe you don’t.

For those of you who aren’t aware, I thought I’d pass the info on that Campbell River Auctions does indeed have a website.  (Click that link to get to it!)

Auctions take place every Thursday at 6:00pm, and they usually have photos online by Tuesday, sometimes even earlier.

This week they have a jacuzzi tub up for bidding, which sounds pretty heavenly to me right about now! :-)

New Club Thrifty Card

how-it-works-cardNow I shop local a lot.  I honestly do – I want to support our businesses such as SuperValue, Fields, Peoples, etc., as much as I possibly can.  But there are some things that I need to go out of town for.  K-cups for our Keurig coffee machine are one thing, and fresh produce is another.

I happened to walk into Thrifty Foods in Campbell River a couple years ago and was hooked the moment I saw all that gorgeous produce arranged so nice and orderly!  (It must be the Virgo in me!)  Plus the produce guys are a bit on the chatty/flirty side – always makes a gal feel good! (Or it might have something to do with the amount of time I spend lingering over the long English cucumber display….. ?)

And then yesterday I was pleased to discover the new Club Thrifty card.  It’s about time, I say!  Maybe I can earn enough points to get a coffee maker that I can actually find coffee pods/cups for?!

So don’t forget to fill out your form the next time you’re in Thrifty’s – it takes all of 2 min, hand it in as you go through the check-out, and start saving for whatever you want/need.  (You can covert the points to Areoplan miles too, I do believe.)

And don’t forget to say hi to the produce guys!!
