Thank You from GRSC

The Gold River Skating Club would like to thank the many people who supported our club this year.

This includes Brad and Lynn Unger from Supervalu for supporting us in many ways, including the BBQ.  Thanks to all  the volunteers and parents who play music, tie skates and encourage the skaters to get up and try again.  Thanks to all the community members who support our fund raising raffles and bottles drive as without this our club would not survive. The Gold River Lodge and Ladies Auxiliary also made donations.  We also have a dedicated group of Canskate coaches who dedicate their time to help others.

Finally, thanks to Debbie Erickson for her commitment to each of her skaters.  Her enthusiasm and energy is what motivates the skaters to keep improving.

Thank you from GRSC

Thank you to all the good people that made this skating year so commendable.

I would like to give a special thumbs up to Leanne Shillito for working so hard to host our own test day this season.  Also to all that worked so hard helping with our carnival – from the raffle basket to the ticket sellers, volunteers that helped set up and take down the decorations, (even if we have to yell at you for having fun on an ice surface), change room helpers, Lesley at the gate letting them feel confidence, sewers, costume organizer Christine.

A big thank you also to all parents and grandparents who help the children get to practice on time throughout the year (yes, we are there at 6:15am) music players, the community that supports our fundraisers (without you we would not exist) and to Christina Logue and family for all the help with music.

Congrats to Erica Engh for coming back to the sport and giving it her all, so proud of you Erica! To Brooke for keeping the love of dance, and to our wounded soldiers Mckenzie and Kaitlyn – there will be next year.

I will look forward to next season! Please keep in touch, and welcome to those who wish to join us for some fun and fitness.

Thanks, Coach Debbie Erickson

What's up for the weekend?

Friday Feb 19th

– Thrive teen night is Friday – there will be a jam session for all those interested in making some music from 3:30-5:00pm.  The group will head to the arena at 6:30pm to support the skate carnival at the ice rink, and at 8:30pm will head back to the Thrive Centre for a Thrive night! Get ready for some great games, great friends and a great discussion.

– Karaoke will be going at the Gold River Legion – usually running from around 8:30pm on.

– Of course no one will want to miss out on the Skating Carnival at 6:30pm tonight!  Bring some extra cash for a beautiful basket raffle, 50/50 tickets and to buy flowers for the skaters.

Saturday Feb 20th

– The Gold River Hawks Mites (5/6 yrs) will be playing their first home games this Saturday.  Game times are 10:00am and again at 1:00pm.  The little guys are absolutely adorable to watch, so don’t miss it!

– Speaking of adorable to watch…(cough, cough), the Gold River Grey Hawks will be taking on Powell River Saturday from 7:00-9:00pm and then again at 10:00am on Sunday.  The Arena Lounge will be open Saturday night as well.  The Powell River team always has a great time when they come to Gold River – perhaps TOO great a time!  A little birdie told me that the last time they were here one of the players got himself lost (because, hey – we all know how easy that is to do in Gold River!?), went looking for help and ended up sleeping on a bench in the Courtroom!  Guess he figured he’d just wait for the Judge!

That’s all I know about – anything I’m missing?  Have a great weekend everyone!

Skating Carnival this Friday

Every other year, the Gold River Skating Club puts on a fabulous carnival for all to enjoy.

This year, the theme is “And the winner is…” as all routines will be done to songs that have won Academy Awards!

Start time is 6:30pm this Friday.  Entry is by donation.  There will be flowers to buy for the skaters, and Moe’s kitchen will be open and available for hot chocolate and goodies!

There will be many performances by all the Skating Club members.  It’s a perfect time to come and support the local Skating club and be entertained at the same time!

Friday Feb 19th @ 6:30pm – come and have a great night out!

Gold River Skating Club News

GRSCI for one am very happy to hear that the Gold River Skating Club will be doing a bottle drive on Monday February 8th.

Good lord, my garage can’t hold any more empties!  (all pop and juice – I swear!)  Having done many bottle drives in the past, I can say with certainty that it’s much easier (and faster) to have your empties out on the curb in advance for easy pick-up.  I always like to put mine out in the afternoon, and then it reminds the neighbours to do the same.  And if you want to be REALLY nice, feel free to separate the alcohol and non-alcohol returns.

Coach Debbie also wants everyone to know that the GRSC Winter Carnival will be held on Friday, February 19th, and would like to encourage all of Gold River to come out and support this event and our local skaters!  Mark your calendars – they put on a wonderful show! :-)
