Fringe festival a huge success

A huge thank you to all the terrific mentors who volunteered to work with the kids at RWES last week and put together just a fabulous week and festival.

Thank you too, to staff and administration at RWES who embraced the idea and supported it whole-heartedly.  The Friday night was amazing!!  Thanks to the kids as well – their energy and enthusiasm were more than contagious.

From all of us on PAC – Kate Ney, Sharon Charette, Rachel Stratton and Sally Cooper.

A BIG Warm Fuzzy to...

A BIG Warm Fuzzy to all the residents and businesses of Gold River who have generously supported our new Youth Thrive Centre!

If you haven’t yet seen it, please feel free to pop in and take a peek during our open hours!  Everything you see has been donated or purchased from community fundraising!  It’s wonderful to see the community support this!

Warm Fuzzies from Sandi Wells

I would like to give a big thank you to the various people and businesses that helped make the New Year’s Eve celebration at the Gold River Legion a HUGE success.

First off, thank you as always to Blake & Kathy Marshall for the use of their van and to Gordie Waterman for being the best Designated Driver ever!  Thank you also to CJ Sounds and especially Sheila Bugar for rockin’ the house.

The following businesses and people donated door prizes:

Odika Cafe, Shear Heaven, Conuma Cable, RC Legion Br. 270, Sheila Bugar & Saphire Dreams.

Thank you all so much for your generosity.

Finally, a huge thank you and hug to Kirsty Begon for all your help at the door and more… and to our wonderful bar staff.  It was a great night.

I have one final note – I am stepping down as Entertainment Chair for the Legion.   If anyone is interested in helping out in any way, please call the Legion at 283-2516 or me at 283-7204.  The Entertainment Chair is not an executive position, and if you are not yet a Legion member don’t worry as memberships are a mere $35 per year.  The Legion is a non profit organization which relies on volunteers to keep operating – they need your help.

Thank you very much

Sandi Wells

A warm fuzzy for Destiny Hutchinson

WarmFuzzy_BlueGold River Grade 12 student Destiny Hutchinson gets a ‘warm fuzzy’ for her initiative, compassion and warm heart.

Destiny has taken in upon herself to step up and raise money for the Haitian earthquake victims.  Most of us think about doing something, but soon get busy with our own lives, and while we may donate, it takes a special person to organize and ASK for our donations!

The money Destiny collects will be sent as a donation to the International Red Cross to provide medical supplies, food, water, blankets and basic necessities.  Her mother (Rhonda Hutchinson) will use her credit card and send the grand total of all monies donated to the International Red Cross on behalf of all contributors.

Destiny asks that we all PLEASE HELP by donating whatever we can give – she will be accepting cash donations at Gold River Secondary School and Super Valu, and will be keeping a list of all names and amounts donated.

Even loonies and toonies add up Gold Riverites!  Lets make Destiny proud and give what we can!

Warm Fuzzies

~The following were sent in by readers~WarmFuzzy_Logo-Blue

A big ‘Warm Fuzzy’ and thank-you going out to the Gold River cookie exchange ladies who all baked a little extra a gave the Christmas goodies to a new resident.  Much appreciated ladies – thank you so much!

Another Warm Fuzzy goes out to Glenn & Angie Frame for generously bringing me a nice supply of wood to go with my new wood stove!  Thank you so much – we are toasty warm now!

A warm fuzzy for Cher

WarmFuzzy_pinkThe first warm fuzzy is going out to Cher Crawford who has spent the majority of her day organizing a Gold River fitness group on Facebook.  She has even created different forms and charts for members to use to track exercise, eating and water intake.  She has also already filled the group with all kinds of great info – from different exercise routines to food ideas and even a section on how to take your measurements properly.

If you’re on Facebook, simply search for the group ‘Gold River 90 Days of Fitness’ and click to join!  If you’re not a Facebook member and would still like the support, motivation and accountability, please let me know and I just bet Cher can figure something out!

Way to go Cher!  You are the BEST at getting everyone motivated! :-)

Fun stuff a’coming on the GR Buzz

I’m sure you’ve noticed there is a spot on the left hand sidebar for a new feature called the Resident Spotlight.  (If not, look to the left now.)

My wish for this is for it to be a sort of ‘get to know you’ feature, as even though Gold River is small, we don’t all know each other.  I know myself that familiar faces are everywhere, always smiling and saying a polite hello when I’m shopping or getting my mail, but I don’t know who they are beyond that smile.

Also, I’m going to be adding another fun feature called a ‘Warm Fuzzy’.  Much like the ‘Beefs and Bouquets’ section that use to run in The Record.  Do you want to thank someone for helping you with a flat tire?  Taking care of your animals when you were away? Having you over for a great dinner?  If so, let me know and I’ll publish it!  Send me an email at info/at/goldriverbuzz/dot/com or simply fill out the contact form.

A Warm Fuzzy from Sandie

WarmFuzzySandie from Gold River sent me this message today:

“Congratulations to the owners of the new coffee and dessert shop French Kiss. Dropped in there for a coffee today and it was awesome. The decor is beautiful, service great and prices very reasonable. Good luck with your new endeavor.”

And she’s right on the money too!  I was there yesterday afternoon for their Grand Opening and was greeted by a tray of delectable goodies that were to die for!  My coffee was perfect and I even got a beautiful little box of chocolates free of charge!  I can’t wait to try out their crepes.  Mmmmm….crepes :-)
