We will be running a six-week session of the Sprockids mountain bike skills program. Time: Fridays 3:30 – 4:30 or 5:00 depending on weather and ride. Dates: May 7 through June 11. Place: Meet in the RWES field. Equipment: Bike and helmet. (We have loaners if needed – contact us) Ages: Riders in grades 1 and up welcome. Ray Watkins Elementary School has been planning a community/school arts festival during BC Arts and Culture Week. They have 16 or so guest mentors from the community volunteering to come in and work with groups of kids every afternoon for the week and then will be having a community celebration/fringe festival at the elementary school for the kids to show off all of their hard work! There will be music and dance performances, and the entire school will be a gallery along with a lovely cafe. There will be face painting too – and it is amazing face painting! Admission is free, but they will be charging for goodies, and face painting is by donation. There will also be a BBQ from 5:30-6:30 at the school. Come on out – it will be amazing! Email This Post

The new Thrive Youth Centre has seen a great couple of weekends so far with many local youth and teens hanging out, playing games and having a great time together. One local resident caught me in the Super Valu the other day and during our conversation she suggested that the Youth Centre be renamed ‘The Vault’. This nickname is definitely fitting given the recent incident involving a local teenager who found himself on the wrong side of the bank vault door, which is still located in the Youth Centre as that building was once the TD Bank. Thankfully, as I’m sure you’ve all heard, after some tense moments for everyone involved, a previous TD Bank employee was contacted and the door was opened. If you want to join in all the fun (but stay out of the vault!), Youth Centre hours until Spring Break are as follows: Mondays 7-9 Men’s night & Father/son Please call Sheila Bugar 283-2910 if you have any questions or if you are interested in supervising Youth Centre activities.
