Covanta / Green Island Energy update

Councilor Lynne Unger sent an update to the Buzz so that Gold River residents are kept updated on this issue:

Thomas Lyons of Covanta Energy and Brandon Snyder of Green Island Energy were in Gold River today and met with Village Council.  Mr. Lyons brought us messages of good news all around.  He reported that the Chair of the Waste Management Committee of the Greater Vancouver Regional District has been changed from Mr. Marvin Hunt from Surrey to Port Coquitlam Mayor Greg Moore, and the concept of “fresh eyes” on the GVRD garbage issue is being viewed favorably by Mr. Lyons.  He told Council that Covanta has absolutely no intention to pull away from the Gold River project and that as far as Covanta is concerned, the Gold River project is a high priority.  He believes this project is positioned very well to be the successful bidder when the Request for Proposal comes out later this year, and hopes to be able to give us great bundles of good news before the year ends.

The Cache Creek landfill renewal is fraught with problems and legal issues, and isn’t seen to be the magic solution that the media has painted it to be.  The GVRD is in the process of amending their Solid Waste Management plan to include possible solutions to their garbage problems as “in region” and “out of region” waste-to-energy facilities.

So once again we wait, but with renewed positive thoughts.  Stay patient Gold River, good things come to those who wait.  L. Unger

I am intrested in any progress being made in the village of Gold River in retropect of anticipated jb creation in the area. On behalf ofth Nootka Sound watershed Society, a few years ago, I forwarded an invitation to then director John Conners to meet with members who were hopeful to discuss the company’s long term involment in he area.
At this time, I am interested in particular to Covanta’s support of a much heralded ‘debris removal’programs. My area of interest involves the Nootka Sound, a well as our pacific coast line tretching from Vancouver to Alaska. I would be anxious to speak with someone inregard to my proposal to recover debris to be disposed of at the GoldRiver facility with my specially designed ‘Seawaste’ recovery vessel.
I would apprciate contacts wih whom I might investigate this proposal further.
    Regards,

yep, just more carrot dangling by an industry that has no business being in such a pristine environment, meanwhile there could have been a less industrial based type of company/companies already flourishing down there, but i guess those that support this ridiculous idea and have the pipe dream of aquiring a job down there will continue to peer through their rose coloured glasses and be disappointed…..

I cannot figure why my computer does not show type-o errors! As far as I can tell, this project is still on the track.
