Hockey season for the Gold River Greyhawks wrapped up this past weekend in Campbell River. (Look for them on the golf course now!)
The April 10/11 weekend saw our old boys in Campbell River playing in the Paint Your Wagon tournament – the old Pioneer League, for those that remember. The guys did very well, playing four games and losing only one. They ended up winning in the finals against the Campbell River Nighthawks and won their division! (They have the t-shirts to prove it!)
This past weekend they were in Campbell River again, this time playing in the Emergency Services Tournament. Things did not go quite as well for our old boys in this one. They played their first game Friday night against DFO, (a hard battle they tell me) and they lost 5-2.
There was a bit of a kerfuffle during this game as you can see, but I believe the culprit was Wayne Guss and not Jim Murphy. (Although it looks like Jim is giving someone hell!) Whoever the culprit was, the guy on the other team certainly doesn’t look happy!
Their second game Saturday afternoon was against the 19 Wing Fliers (CFB Comox), and our boys were up 2-0 to begin with, but the game ended with Comox winning 5-4. The Saturday evening game against the Comox Valley RCMP was a different story! The Greyhawks dominated right from the beginning of the game, winning 9-1.
Now I don’t have individual pictures of every member of the team, but my husband did bring back a few for you all to enjoy:
(If I got any names wrong, please let me know!)
Congratulations on a great season you old farts! It was a joy keeping track of the team this year, and poking some fun at the same time! See you next season – same time, same place!
