LindaI’ve have got to know Linda quite well over the years.  Many like you who see her and chat at Super Valu, but also because our youngest daughters were in the same Grade together.  Linda, I know you’ve been an important part of who Kristanna is today and I am very grateful to you for that and for always opening your home to all the kids. I am also proud to call you my friend. 🙂

How long have you lived in Gold River? What brought you here?

I have lived in Gold River for 23 years. My husbands work was and still is here, and that is what brought me! Gold River has been very good to me. An amazing place to raise three children.

What do you do for (paid) work?

I work at Super Valu! I have worked there for about 16 years. I first was hired by Dave and Lynn Cyr. I was a customer of the store on a very regular basis, raising three young children I should have just bought a cow! They got to know me well, and asked me one day if I would like a job. I jumped at the chance! When the Cyr’s sold the store to Brad and Lynne Unger, they thankfully kept me on at the store. I love my job, both The Cyr’s and the Unger’s are amazing to work for. I have been very lucky. I feel as if my job is my social life. I love the customers, love hearing and sharing stories. At times I have been known to share a bit to much! Sorry, I do have a strange sense of humour!

Please tell us about any volunteer work you do.

Through working at the store I have gotten to know Heather Warwick, an amazing lady. She hooks me up once a year with volunteer work. In the Spring I canvas door to door to collect for the cancer society. A worthy cause I believe.
And in the Winter I look forward to going door to door collecting non perishable goods/cash donations for our local food bank. Our children and some of their friends looked very forward each year to help with the drive. Now that the kids have all moved, I have a large handful of friends that enjoy coming out and helping!

Can you tell us a bit about your family?

I have been married to my husband Rick for 31 years. We have three of the coolest kids on the block! I couldn’t be prouder of them. CJ is turning 27 soon, he is engaged to his long time girl friend Meghan. Katelyn is our middle child, this Christmas Day she turned 24. Mariah our youngest will be 21 this coming spring. All of us along with Mariah’ boyfriend Brandon we will be heading to Vegas on a family holiday right after Mariah becomes 21! We are all looking very forward to it!

Do you have any pets?

Right at the moment I have a 13 year old bichon cross dog named Jack. He’s my little buddy! A 5 year old black and white tuxedo cat named Talia. And a 10 inch long Oscar/cichlid fish, his name is Oscar De La Grouch. In the past we have had quite a few pets. Some would have even called it a Petting Zoo!

What do you like to do for fun?

My most recent interest is metal detecting. I am going to find gold someday! As of now though I have found many rusty nails, pop can tabs and beer bottle caps! I have also found about $2.00 in loose change! I also enjoy the new craze of colouring, camping, jigsaw puzzles, crafts, gambling at any casino! I enjoy bingo “every Thursday evening at the ladies auxiliary hall, doors open at 6:30” or out at Tsaxana reserve when one is hosted there.

What do you wish Gold River had that it doesn’t? Is there anything missing for you?

A bowling ally! Through the years of raising our three children I always believed bowling would have been a great for us as a family. I hear years ago we did once have one here in Gold River.

And just for fun – if you had 1 million dollars to donate to the community in any way you wished – what would you do with the money?

I would donate the million dollars to the Rec Centre! Free swimming! And to the skating and hockey club, so all children that wanted to join could join. And a fund for the skates and equipment!

Glad to see the spotlight on you Linda!……over the years, I have enjoyed going through the grocery line and appreciated the greeting and smile you give us all, it makes a difference! Wishing you a gold strike in 2016, but even if that does not happen until 2017, have fun in Reno and checking for metals, and all best wishes for the coming year to you and your family
