Nootka Sound Outdoor Program

Mr. Philip Parkes came to GRSS in the 2008/09 school year as a replacement for Mr. Norman’s medical leave (I believe?), and was back again this year – much to the delight of his students!

As my two are both students at GRSS, I’ve been able to hear firsthand the experience, knowledge and fun that Mr. Parkes has brought to our school.  He spearheaded an Outdoor Adventure Group last year, and continued it on again this year.  Students take trips to Strathcona Lodge and are able to take part (for a very low fee) in hiking, rock climbing, kayaking and zip lining!  Mr. Parkes has traveled the world, and has captivated his student audience more than once with tales of his travels and the experiences gained.

School District #84 and Mr. Parkes are now bringing this program into the school curriculum as a course rather than an after school activity.  If your child has expressed interest, and you would like more information, you are urged to attend the meeting on June 23rd at 5:30pm at GRSS.  Please contact the school at 283-2538 if you have any questions.

Hmmmm… I think I smell the next Resident Spotlight! :)
