The Nootka Sound RCMP have just notified me and asked me to get the word out to the public immediately.
A cougar was just spotted on Nootka Drive walking towards Maquinna Drive. Conservation has been advised and the local schools are being contacted right now as well.

I asked the RCMP for a follow-up regarding this cougar and they said to their knowledge it was only a reported sighting. No interaction with the public and it quickly took off into the wooded area toward the river. BC Conservation have been advised but it appears to be an isolated incident. Should matters escalate they will advise the public and the Buzz to get the word out.
