This Resident Spotlight is someone who ALWAYS has a smile and a kind word for everyone. She also has more positive energy that anyone I’ve ever met! I don’t know why it took me so long to ask her about the Spotlight…. I knew she’d be game! Thanks Tarina!
How long have you lived in Gold River? What brought you here?
We’ve lived here for 9 years. When the mill closed in Tahsis a job presented itself here – and so here we are!!
What do you do for (paid) work?
I am a house cleaner. I prefer the term “domestic goddess”, lol. I love my job(s) because I still get to be at home when my kids are and my job is flexible enough to allow that.
Please tell us about any volunteer work you do.
Most of my volunteer work is through Northgate Church. Whether it’s serving food, cleaning up or working alongside Sheila Bugar with the Youth Group there. I bake for most community fundraisers and “used to be” more involved in classroom help when my kids were younger.
Please tell us a bit about your family.
My family is a passionate bunch. That’s my word for loud, lol. I’ve been married to Les for 21 years and we have four beautiful girls.
Do you have any pets?
We have 2 dogs. Mini and Paco. No doubt I’m sure most or some of you have been barked at by my big chicken dogs. And I’m just sorry about that!! We love them to bits and because they’re small and it’s fun, we love to dress them up! The dogs don’t seem to enjoy it as much as the girls do, teeeheee. But they do get a free buggy ride out of the deal!
What do you like to do for fun?
I really love to bake. Probably my favorite thing to do!! I also love to sew, sing and dance, and read. Throw in some gardening and that’s me.
What do you wish Gold River had that it doesn’t? Is there anything missing for you?
A shoe warehouse? lol. Wouldn’t that be divine??? Sigh. Seriously though….I’d love to see more things for our kids. Ranging from wee little to young adult. Whether a huge park with a water park area, skate park area, swings, slides etc, and somewhere to sit (benches), or run around and a place to hold outdoor concerts. Something for all ages. Our youth are so important!!! Let’s invest in them!
And just for fun – if you had 1 million dollars to donate to the community in any way you wished – what would you do with the money?
Ooooooooo, a million dollars! – let’s build that park!! Maybe hire local talent to come play music, or teach/mentor our kids.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I love living in Gold River. It’s picturesque. I love looking out my windows and seeing a beautiful view every day, every season. I love this community. I truly do. I love how neighbors will phone and let you know if your daughter is too high up in a tree, lol, OR where they know they shouldn’t be. It says they care. This is a great place to live AND to raise your kids.
