I just remembered it was Thursday this very minute! Holy cow did the week go fast!
- I’ve been a walking maniac these past few days. One walk Monday and Tuesday night, two walks yesterday and two walks again today! If I keep this up I’ll be as skinny as my husband in no time! (hehehe)
- As much as I’ve been enjoying all the walking around Gold River, I don’t enjoy the dog poop much. Holy crap! (pun intended) We have a Great Dane and I’ve never seen so much poop in my life. The Village of Gold River has designated Nimpkish Park as a temporary Off Leash Area until March 31st (I believe – correct me if I’m wrong on the date), and they have also provided poopie bags around the park for people to pick up after their dogs. I think it’s great that the Village is allowing this as there isn’t anywhere in town for the dogs to run around free, but I can’t imagine they’ll allow this again if dog owners continue to leave it in such a state.
- Would anyone like a couple of teenage girls? I have two I’m willing to give away – cheap! Boy I sure miss the quiet, relaxing days of colouring and crafts…. ~sigh~.
- The food situation is so bad around here (ie: healthy stuff only in the house) that the hubby has taken to eating croutons as a snack! The poor thing, he’s wasting away!

You are correct with the Dog Park end date. This past week I’ve traveled and stayed in a few communities on the island and let me tell you that irresponsible dog owners, no let me correct that Ignorant dog owners are everywhere. Your Municipal Council was solicited by a group of dog owners in town to create a dog park. Counil responded with Councillor’s Trevis and Begon doing the leg work and reporting back with the reccomendation for Nimpkish Park for a trial period.
While It’s usually dark when I walk our new puppy around Nimpkish it’s hard to see if indeed we are cleaning up after our dogs. I can say I see it everywhere else in town and it’s not pretty. This has been an ongoing problem and only takes away from the beauty of our Village.
I do have a few friends who call it DOG S**T PARK, let’s all prove them wrong and do the right thing

Hi I am one of those dog walkers and am at the park on a daily basis, mostly in the morning. There is very little if no dog poop in the park however there is a MASSIVE amount of Elk poop there. Ever since the Elk herd moved into town they have decided that Nimpkish Park is their nightly sleeping ground and dining area .After dinner they do what comes naturally and that is the large deposits of feces you are seeing.

Hi I am also one of the dog walkers, not on a regular basis, but usually 3 to 4 times a week.I have seen very little dog poop in the park, and what I have seen is in torn doggy poop bags around the garbage can, as the crows are looking for something to eat. What you have seen this week in regards to poop, and there is a lot of it, is from the small herd of elk that has decided it’s a nice place to sleep, eat and poop!!! I don’t know who is responsible for picking it up, but please, don’t blame the dogs.
By the way, if you want to see the elk, they’re usually down there before 7:00 A.M. and after 8:00 P.M. Do’t go too close, they are wild and need some space.
On a more positive note, the dog walkers in general are very thankfull that the Village upon consultation were able to see the wisdom in creating a place for people to take their dogs and themselves for a little exercise. A special thanks to Kirstie Begon and Suzanne Trevis for working together with us on this.
Nina and Marion – thanks for your input ladies (and you too Craig!)
I guess I should not have been quite so specific to Nimpkish Park (although there is indeed quite a bit of poop on either side of the walkway that runs parallel to the road – fellow walkers have stepped in it twice in as many days. It’s not easy to mistake elk poop for dog – it was definitely dog poop.) What I perhaps should have said that there is certainly more dog poop all around town (on all boulevards) than should be.
I too think it was wonderful of Council to work on this with the community and designate an off leash area. I did not mean to imply that the group of dog owners who solicited Council to allow this are the ones who are leaving ‘deposits’ behind. My apologies.
I have stepped in the DOG poop twice in the last week at Nimpkish Park and being an avid hunter, I can tell the difference very easily, as I am sure most people can. The joys of spending a half hour at home cleaning DOG POOP off my runners after a nightly walk, does put a damper on the evening. I don’t mind dogs being in the park, its nice they have a place to go, but really how hard is it to pick up poop, even when the bags are now supplied. I know it only takes that one person…so were not putting the blame on everyone, but maybe if the word gets out-those few dog owners will start to be a little more responsible of the pets.
Hi GR girl there is no need for appologies as you were right. I just returned home from walking about 80% of the park and although I found NO dog poop in the park itself ..I did find two piles of dog poop just where you said, on the outside of the walkway near the road, which I picked up.
Most of the dog owners are VERY responsible, however there are a FEW people that allow their dogs to run freely about town. I do not know what can be done about this. There are also dogs who come into town to visit..I wish I had answers but I do hope anyone who sees dog poop takes the couple of minutes to pick it up and help keep our little town cleaner. Thanks Marion
