Vehicle down embankment has happy ending

If you heard sirens in Gold River around dinner time on Wednesday Jan 13th, and were wondering what was happening, read on:

On Wednesday crews who were working near the Buttle Lake narrows discovered a vehicle down a 40 ft embankment.  Their radio conversations were overheard, and the incident was called into the RCMP.  Gold River RCMP began a full emergency response, which included the Gold River Fire Department and BC Ambulance.  The Campbell River Search & Rescue were also notified and were on standby.

An intensive search in the dark failed to located any evidence of a vehicle going off the road, and because of the lack of visibility and the time delay of the call, the search was called off until the morning.

Workers on the crew were contacted in the morning and assisted the RCMP in locating the vehicle.  As it turns out this vehicle had actually gone off the road last November.  The driver, who was thankfully uninjured, had climbed back up the bank and flagged down a passerby for a ride to Campbell River where he is from.  Apparently he returned the next day and could not find his vehicle.

So the story has a happy ending – no one was hurt, and the man from Campbell River now knows the whereabouts of his vehicle.
