Guess what Gold River? For those of us who want/need to get fit and be healthier there is another option beside (or in addition to) the online Facebook group that I talked about yesterday! Our lovely current resident in the Spotlight emailed to let me know about a support group she’s heading. (Add one more thing to her list of volunteerism!)
After Weight Watchers stopped there was still a need for a support group in Gold River, so one was started. It’s called “Weight Away” and began officially this past December. It is NOT Weight Watchers, it is a support group for anyone wishing to lose weight and get fit.
Sheila is leading the group Wednesday nights from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Northgate Church. You come and weigh in (privately if you choose), then the group gets together and shares recipes, talks about issues, discusses exercise/health/nutrition ideas, etc. People follow their own eating plans but a plan can be provided/suggested if you don’t already have something. Sheila says that from time to time they will also be bringing in guest speakers – Doctors, health officials, fitness pro’s etc., to discuss certain topics.
The cost is a mere $5 per week (a drop-in fee), with the money going toward incentives such as stickers and prizes, as well as photocopying and a donation to the church for using the facility.
It is a great group of people from all ages and weight ranges helping each other be accountable and encouraging one another!
If you have any questions Sheila says you are welcome to call her at 283-2910.
