I had a hockey coach from Campbell River contact me a couple months ago asking for information on Upana Caves. Apparently he wanted to do a day trip to the caves as a team bonding excursion. I told him I didn’t know much, but that I’d do a bit of digging.
I wish I had known about Gold River resident Randy Brochu’s website! Randy sent me an email last week to let me know about his local website called West Coast Caving. Randy’s website covers a dozen or so caves on Vancouver Island with beautiful photos accompanying each. There are also trip reports dating back to 2006, maps, videos and other caving links.
A great resource for anyone looking to explore our natural wonders hidden deep within!
I did manage to come across a map of Upana Caves from the Western Forest Products site, which I’ll include here as well as in the Maps/Extras section.
It’s not the most detailed map, but it will give you a good general idea of the area.
Don’t forget to take a peek at Randy’s West Coast Caving site!
